MBA Coffee chats are a bit like traditional informational interview but quite honestly, more about assessing your fit with the business school's culture. You know how sometimes you speak with someone and you just don't see yourself being a good fit for them? Yeah? Well, that is one thing about coffee chats, it helps you get an idea of what kinds of students are there in a particular school.
A couple of things to consider though! Know that the purpose of coffee chats is also multi-dimensional. What I mean by that is you need to see it from more than culture fit standpoint. Coffee chats can be used for- information, reverse engineered ideas from applications, goal discussion, resources exploration, fit assessment, leaving an impression (usually with adcom) etc. But anyhow, you need to follow proper structure, go in prepared for coffee chats and ensure you ask thoughtful questions. That means a prerequisite for coffee chats is research on the schools and have your goals ready. All these things are discussed in the checklist of our DIY page!
