MBA RESEARCH (NYU & CBS): MICHAEL SCOTT SERIES #2

Updated: Sep 29

We saw in the last blog that Michael has come to MBA Conquerors to see if he is qualified for the M7 or refund challenge and from what he told us in that profile with his leadership experience and breadth of knowledge he comes with, he succeeded and MBA Conquerors decided to take the first step into understanding him by starting with Brainstorming and setting up his goal .

If you are interested in learning more about what happened during the extremely detailed brainstorming session of Michael Scott where we got to know him at a deeper level, you can have an inside scoop by streaming it on - Netflix, Prime, Peacock, Jio Cinema etc., No, we didn't put those there before you ask.

When we learnt about Michael Scott, we knew that we have to acknowledge his love for New York and decided to advice him to look into two schools in NYC - NYU Stern & Columbia Business School.
- Kartik Nimbalkar, MBA Conquerors

For the Phase 1 of research, we wanted Michael to look into some significant aspects of the schools such as, NYU Stern and Columbia that pertain more to the goals Michael has set for himself - Entrepreneurship in paper industry. We will discuss Michael's goals in a separate article, for now, we have to get him started on his research for the schools he has chosen to start with.

A couple of things on the checklist that helped Michael stay on track, let's go through it one by one so you know what Michael did.

As it says in the book Michael received during on-boarding from MBA Conquerors, the first step taken was supposed to be meet the timelines of the schools and understand the deadlines of NYU Stern MBA Program and Columbia Business School MBA Program.

Next, to understand more about the application process, we asked him to ensure he is also registering for any of the upcoming events hosted by the schools from the NYU Stern Events page and Columbia Business School's events page. While Michael was scrolling through the school website, we encouraged him to go through the class profile of Columbia Business School and class profile of NYU Stern MBA to get a gist of the diverse experiences of a class and not to be surprised, Michael seemed pretty enthusiastic and had a lot of things to say looking at the many different ethnicities he will get to be around and genuinely willing to remember all the birthdays of some thousand people he will be around and willing to have a party planning committee set up to organize each of their birthdays. Well! Might as well, endowment's gotta go somewhere, right?

And Michael decided to dial up someone he used to know in the middle of our conversation- Dwight Schrute, who seemed way too enthusiastic about taking up the above workload Michael asked him to take. But we intervened and told him that the next steps will require Michael to know about these things so proactiveness is key.

Additionally, we thought that it would help Michael to go through the student ambassador page of NYU Stern and Hermes Society at Columbia Business school to see and get to know the students who are willing to give him an idea about the school by speaking with him and we also told him some of the MBA Fairs he can attend. And while he was doing that we wanted him to get to New York and have a campus visit for which he decided to ask us to accompany him.

Of course, we said no coz we were working with another client, Chuck Bartowski, who might get his own blog really soon and him and his coworker John Casey decided to apply together for MBA programs in the West Coast. And while we do everything big in Texas, we cannot be in both the places at once.

However, we did decide to move on to train him for phase 2 with Coffee chats and events. Because there is a specific structure we followed to let Michael know how to conduct the coffee chats, given his own attributes and taste (I know what you are thinking), we will probably just keep it in house. But many of the things started by letting him look at the application requirements of Columbia Business School and the application requirements of NYU Stern. And understanding the what the schools stand for by asking him to go through the blogs by NYU Stern and Columbia Insights and the school's mission. Stern happened to have a few blogs with Admissions tips.

And so began phase 3 of Michael's journey- execution of the strategies developed as a result of the research but not so quick coz Michael still needs to prepare his MBA Resume for networking purposes and that resume will have a lot of things Michael has done during his time at Dunder Mifflin Inc. And if you are interested in knowing how we helped Michael Scott craft his resume, stay tuned!

With something fun, we decided that it might be worthwhile to see the journey of an MBA Applicant and since we cannot disclose information of a real one, this is our attempt to use a little humour to get you an idea on MBA Applications.
